When you are used to living your life as a VIP as Birmingham and I are, sometimes you forget that the world doesn’t revolve around your schedule. So after an afternoon of doing this and that and taking a leisurely lunch in Beacon, we were stunned to learn that we arrived at Dia:Beacon with only 45 minutes to tour the place before it closed. We were also a little shocked that we were still charged $10 a person for the privilege to gaze at modern art.

Feeling rushed, we walked through the whole place determined to save time by not contemplating any artwork that was either: white on white, installation art that looked like a mess left by the cleaning crew, or “something I could make.” That left us enough time to see what I now consider my two favorite pieces. One is the fish fountain, illegally pictured below. The other is the exhibit Birmingham and I call “hot dog stand” as we both confused a sign for the ACTUAL hot dog stand for a title placard for the four 15-foot high steel structures that you can walk in and around. To justify our lateness, we decided that “hot dog stand” was worth $5 a piece, fish fountain was worth $3 a piece, and the rest was worth a paltry $2 for glitterati like us.
